When my school rolled out a new Wi-Fi system that quickly became a source of frustration and debate among students, I was determined to uncover the full story. What began with a single lead, the IT staff, grew into hours of interviews, research, and survey design as I tried to understand not only the technical challenges but also the student experience behind them. This piece remains one of the works I’m most proud of because it captures what journalism means to me: amplifying voices that might otherwise go unheard and telling the truth with care and integrity.
In this article, I explored the complex relationship between politics, government, and media influence. It was a challenging topic, but I aimed to unpack it in a way that was both accessible and compelling. My interview with a Mercury News reporter was especially eye-opening and helped me underscore the responsibility young people carry in navigating media bias.

This piece, which examined the sustainability efforts at the 2024 Olympics and the controversy they sparked, captures what I love most about journalism: digging beneath the surface of what seems like a simple story, grounding it in data and facts, and revealing its deeper dimensions to readers. It was fascinating to look at the political and environmental debates happening behind the scenes of the Olympics and bring this lesser known perspective to our community.

When I first set out to write an article about the future of feminism, I wasn’t sure where to begin. I knew I wanted to explore the growing backlash against feminism, but I also sensed there were deeper questions worth uncovering. My first source, the FEM Club adviser, encouraged me to seek a diverse range of perspectives, including those of male teachers, to build a more nuanced and balanced piece. Following her advice not only strengthened my reporting but also challenged my own assumptions, leading me to uncover thoughtful insights and powerful quotes that ultimately shaped the article.

Every year, I write several profiles for our Humans of Harker magazine, which features every senior at our school. These pieces are especially meaningful to me because they allow me to connect with people I might never have spoken to otherwise. Through long, candid interviews, I get to know each senior’s story on a deeper level, and I feel a genuine responsibility to capture their voice and character with honesty. These two are among my favorites.
