Multimedia
Multimedia is where I’ve grown the most as a journalist. Although I came into journalism with years of writing experience, I had almost no background in visual or audio storytelling. Over time, I’ve learned how powerful multimedia can be in connecting with an audience, and how combining sound, visuals, and narrative can bring stories to life in a way that words alone cannot.
News and Feature Videos
As News Editor in my junior year, I led our publication’s first venture into broadcast journalism. Covering the spirit rally was the culmination of that effort: a fast-paced, one-shot event where we had to capture every piece of footage within a single lunch and afternoon. I also brought in several Intro to Journalism students to give them hands-on experience and mentored them through the process. From planning and filming to selecting clips and editing the final video, this project demanded so much teamwork and effort, and I’m incredibly proud of how it came together.
Creating this feature video about Editor’s Week, the week before school starts when all our editors come together to launch the journalism year, was incredibly rewarding. I loved showcasing our own staff and behind-the-scenes process, capturing the energy and collaboration that define our newsroom. We showed the video at a school-wide meeting to promote the journalism program, and it felt like a culmination of all the skills I’d developed over the years.
To further expand the scope of the News section, I experimented with longer-form video coverage for visually engaging events. I produced this feature on the Winter Walkways event, which taught me the importance of diverse sourcing, strong B-roll, and thoughtful visual structure to keep viewers engaged from start to finish.

Campaign Conversations: Key Issues
Campaign Conversations: Democratic National Convention
In covering the 2024 election, I wanted to highlight real voices from our community, especially because political events affect all of us in different ways. I created the Campaign Conversations podcast, which aimed to analyze election events with both students and teachers.
Although two of the episodes we worked on weren’t published due to timing, they were both completed and I’m still proud of the research, recording, and editing that went into each episode. Producing these podcasts taught me a lot about the pace of political news and the importance of staying flexible when covering fast-moving stories.

One of my first pieces as a News Editor was a Talk Around Campus piece on election thoughts, where I interviewed students and staff about their perspectives. It was really fun to kick off our election coverage by gathering diverse perspectives from students and teachers.
