When I got home from my first day of junior year, I immediately sat down and wrote this piece in one sitting. It was on a tight deadline: the story was slated for the front page of The Winged Post, which was about to go to press. Covering fast-paced events like this has been one of the most formative parts of my journalism experience. The quick turnarounds and on-the-spot interviews have continually pushed me out of my comfort zone and sharpened my skills as a reporter.

One of the biggest controversies of my senior year was the cancellation of our football homecoming game, which was replaced with a volleyball homecoming instead. Many in our community were disappointed, but we wanted to reframe the story: to acknowledge frustration while also highlighting the new opportunities it created, especially the chance to spotlight the volleyball team. Through quick, coordinated coverage, we captured the fast-moving updates and amplified voices to bring optimism to a moment of tension.

I had no idea what to expect when I set out to cover this protest, but I wanted to shed light on the local activism unfolding in our community, something I felt too few people were aware of. The experience was eye-opening: speaking with so many passionate individuals broadened my understanding of political engagement, and I worked to capture that energy and conviction through both my photos and my writing.

When the LA wildfires broke out, I knew I wanted to cover the story, but I also wanted to ground it in how it was truly affecting our own community. Through conversations with students, teachers, and alumni who had ties to the area, I learned how each of them was personally impacted. Their firsthand accounts added a human dimension to a distant crisis and turned a national story into something local and real.
